The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) is devoted to helping members of the Jewish community in Central Maryland make a positive impact and contribute to their local area. Through civic engagement, JCRC mobilizes synagogues, organizations, and individuals to uphold both Jewish and American values. The JCRC often leads and takes part in rallies, demonstrations, and other activities to discuss important matters. Recently, the JCRC collaborated with the Adas Israel Congregation to bring together more than 200 Jewish leaders and organizations to condemn the Uighur genocide and urge President Biden to hold China accountable for it.
This is just one example of how the JCRC is helping members of the Jewish community in Central Maryland make a difference. The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington and Moment magazine have also partnered up to offer a five-session book series that explores today's Israel through the eyes of writers. This is an excellent opportunity for those looking to deepen their connection to the Jewish community, values, culture, and tradition. In addition, Jamie Raskin (D-MD), who represents a neighboring House of Representatives district in suburban Maryland, will run for the Senate. This has caused David Trone (D-MD), who is 26 years old and would be the first Latino and openly gay person to represent Maryland in the House of Representatives if elected, to reevaluate his position in the race and possibly return to his seat. Trone has long been dedicated to Jewish and pro-Israel activism. He attended a Jewish day school in Maryland and participated in BBYO, a major Jewish youth movement, as well as other Jewish organizations.
During his brief term in the state legislature, he has pledged to address hate crimes in Maryland, where anti-Semitic incidents increased significantly last year. There are numerous ways for members of the Jewish community in Central Maryland to get involved and make a difference. From attending rallies and demonstrations organized by the JCRC to participating in book series offered by the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington and Moment magazine, there are plenty of opportunities for individuals to contribute to their local community.
